The National People’s Congress enacted the Exit-Entry Administration Law on June 30, 2012.
On July 12, 2013, the State Council made public regulations implementing the law. The new regulations became effective on September 1, 2013. They differ significantly from draft regulations which had been released for public comment by the State Council on May 3, 2013.

Due to global integration and the day-by-day increase of Sino-foreign contacts, nationality problems are arising for Chinese citizens living in Mainland China . Some Mainland Chinese citizens qualify under foreign law to apply for or automatically acquire foreign citizenship (even if they have never been abroad) due to a foreign adoption, foreign marriage, or having foreign relatives.
