U.S. Consulates in Shanghai and Shenyang Temporarily Closed (Updated)

U.S. Government Shutdown

Shanghai

Due to local health control measures, the visa unit at the U.S. Consulate in Shanghai is currently closed. They expect to remain closed until the lockdown is lifted, according to ustraveldocs.com.

The United States has no higher priority than the safety and security of U.S. citizens overseas, including Mission China’s personnel and their families.

On April 11, 2022, the Department of State ordered the departure of non-emergency U.S. government employees and their family members from U.S. Consulate General Shanghai.  This order reflects “our assessment that it is best for our employees and their families to be reduced in number and our operations to be scaled down as we deal with the changing circumstances on the ground.”

Shenyang

The Consular Section of U.S. Consulate in Shenyang reports that it is temporarily closed for all but emergency services from March 28 through April 8, 2022, due to COVID-19 related restrictions in the region.  This closure applies to visa, notarial, and routine passport and CRBA services.  The Consular Section expects to re-open on April 11. However, depending on circumstances, this period may be extended.  For emergency assistance, please contact the Consulate by telephone at +86-24-2335-5188 or by email at ShenyangACS@state.gov
