AmCham China White Paper: Visa Policy

AmCham ChinaThe 17th edition of AmCham China’s newly published American Business in China White Paper reflects the collective views of AmCham China’s more than 1,000 member companies on trade and commercial issues that affect the U.S. business community in China. The Visa Policy chapter focuses on:

1. The recent U.S.-China visa reciprocity agreement

2. Ongoing regulatory challenges for China visas:

  • Processing times for work permits and residence permits
  • The requirement to submit original documents
  • Restrictions on applying for a residence permit for work within China without first leaving to obtain a Z visa
  • Treatment of applicants with minor criminal convictions
  • Concerns of international school

3. Ongoing regulatory challenges for U.S. visas:

  • Progress implementing President Obama’s executive order to reduce visa processing times and increase visa processing capacity in China
  • Discriminatory per-country caps on employment-based green cards
  • H-1B visa cap
  • Barriers to permanent residents taking assignments abroad

It was a pleasure to this year again participate in the drafting process for the Visa Policy chapter.
