Visas Systems at U.S. Consular Posts in China Back Online

errorJune 23: Technical problems preventing issuance of U.S. visas by consular posts in China (Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenyang), have been remedied according to the State Department. Michele T. Bond, Acting Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of Consular Affairs, previously stated that IT systems were interrupted due to a database problem not malicious hacking.

The U.S. Mission in China has posted this updated message about nonimmigrant visas:

Systems issues that have affected the Department of State’s ability to issue visas have been resolved, and all applicants can schedule appointments as normal.

The State Department states that “there is a large backlog of cases to clear,” meaning that processing has not yet been completed on many pending visa applications.

Our law firm anticipates that it may take some period of time for the Department to work through the large backlog and print visas in the delayed cases.

Of course, clients should feel free to contact our office for further advice.
